Western Australia

Western Australia is renowned for its brilliant blue skies, warm sunny climate and white sandy beaches.
It's a land blessed with some of the world's most precious natural phenomena including the Pinnacle Desert, the 300 million year old Bungle Bungle Range and the towering Karri forests of the southwest.
Some 400 kilometers to the east of the WA capital city Perth, are the gold fields of Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie. "When suddenly a vein of quartz lay bare, all gleaming with yellow gold".

Perth is situated on the south west coast and is one of the most remote capital cities in the world.
Perth's climate is one of its many alluring features, 18c to 24c degrees all year round. Perth is situated on the Swan River. The city of Fremantle is 20 minutes drive south at the entrance to the Swan River and is alive with cafes, bars, and boutiques. It is also famous for its fresh seafood.

Vast wheat fields to the northwest -- "when the burning harvest sun sinks low, and the shadows stretch on the plain, the roaring strippers come and go, like ships on a sea of grain". In the far north lie the great iron ore and natural gas deposits.

The town of Broome, 2230 kilometers north of Perth, is famous for its pearl harvesting on the seabed. Although it is in a remote location it has become a tourist mecca. Accommodation is very good with Hotels and resorts.

The Kimberley Wilderness in the top end of WA allows travelers to view Aboriginal rock art galleries and gives an insight into the local Aboriginal culture and history. It is a vast area to explore from the Gibb River Road, Mitchell Plateau, Bungle Bungle and Geikie Gorges.

Permanent safari camps allow guests the comfort of tent cabins, hot showers, toilets and a marquee - kitchen in this remote vast area. Western Australia is also famous for its wildflowers in the desert regions. South west of Perth is the wine growing area with many Lodges, Manors sand Resorts.

Travelers Notes:

Some years ago we boarded the train (The Indian Pacific) in Sydney and traveled for 3 days to Perth.
A wonderful journey as my wife and I had a cabin with a double bed and 2 swivel chairs to view the countryside.
The train leaves Sydney at 4pm, travelling over the Blue Mountains to the west, pulling into Broken Hill at 8am the next morning.
The same afternoon we arrived in Adelaide and following a stop of an hour we proceeded north around Spencer's Gulf travelling through the night westward. The train then travelled across the Nullabor Plain all the next day and pulled into the rip roaring gold town of Kalgoorlie at about 9pm. We then had a bus trip through the town before going on to Perth, arriving the next morning. At each meal we dined with an American couple and have been close friends since.
